Welcome

This is the Southern California Association for Food Protection. We are a group of food professionals interested in learning more about food safety methods, technologies, research and best practices. We meet quarterly to exchange information on protecting the food supply. Membership is open to any interested person.

This organization was chartered in 2002. We are a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

This organization is an affiliate of the International Association for Food Protection.  In Milwaukee Wisconsin, October 1911, 35 men from Australia, Canada and the United States, interested in improving the quality of milk, organized the International Association of Dairy and Milk Inspectors.  By 1936, the Association became the International Association of Milk Sanitarians.  In 1947, its name changed to the International Association of Milk and Food Sanitarians, Inc.  Again in 1966, the Association changed to the International Association of Milk, Food and Environmental Sanitarians.  In October 1999, members voted to accept the current name, International Association for Food Protection.

Our mission:

To provide a forum to exchange information on protecting the food supply.

Our objectives are:

To broaden our own knowledge of various companies and their efforts to ensure safe food

To share our knowledge with other food safety professionals to ensure safer food worldwide.

To provide education to our members on emerging topics.

To network with other food safety professionals.

What SCAFP does

First and foremost, we get together and discuss items of interest that relate to food safety.  In the past we have toured: a glass plant, two irradiation facilities, harvesting fields for strawberries and celery, food production facilities, catering services, an aircraft carrier kitchen, a Disneyland kitchen and more!

Typical members include sanitarians, food preparation people, QC/QA personnel, auditors, scientists, manufacturers, health departments, laboratory specialists and others interested in food safety.

To join, fill in a membership application.  Dues are $10 per year.  It can be paid directly to SCAFP or included in your IAFP dues.  You do not need to be a member of IAFP to be a member of SCAFP.
